Context

Alcounter is my first proper Android app released on the Google Play store. It began as a university assignment and I tweaked and polished it afterwards to get it into a releseable state. I wanted to release it to learn how the process works and to gain new experience.

The Idea

The main difference to other similar apps is the time when a user interacts with the app. The user inputs each glass of alcohol right after drinking it and has a complete overview of everything consumed. Alcounter uses the user inputs to approximate alcohol blood content and calculates how much time is left until the alcohol content is zero again. Another advantage of this approach is that the user can use the data visible in the app for example when paying the bill before leaving and so on. Alcounter contains features for adding custom types of alcohol, notifications that remind user that the app is in use and more.
